Tragedy struck at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun state, as a 400-level medical student, Adewole Emmanuel, slumped and died moments before sitting for his final session examination.
The tragic incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Ife University Medical Students Association (IFUMSA).
Announcing the development, the association described the deceased as a promising student whose sudden death has left colleagues devastated.
“Under the cover of dark clouds, we write to you with the heaviest of hearts to inform you of the passing of one of our own, an integral part of the association and a solid pillar of his class,” the statement read.
IFUMSA further described Emmanuel as “a colleague, friend, roommate, and a Part 4 medical student with an undeniably bright future until the time of his passing.”
“This incident is not only sad, but crucially painful as we lost a rising star and a loving member of the IFUMSA family,” the statement added.
The association however urged members of the public to refrain from speculations surrounding the cause of death as they demanded respect for the bereaved family.
