An old video of late Nollywood veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, rendering chants during the burial of legendary filmmaker, Chief Herbert Ogunde, has surfaced online.
The video, dated back to 3rd of May 1990 and recorded during Ogunde’s funeral at the National Art Theatre (now Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creature Arts), was posted on X on Monday by Nigerian poet, Ajala Yemi.
Yemi posted the video in tribute to the late Hassan who died on Sunday after prolonged battle with Stage Four Cancer.
As seen in the old clip, Ogogo, as he is fondly called, had joined other thespians under the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) to perform a dirge and procession for late Ogunde at the national theatre.
The procession was led by another late actor, Ishola Ogunshola, popularly known as Dr. I-Show Pepper.
Ogogo who, during his lifetime, was also a prolific chanter, took over the dirge from Ogunshola as he rendered a powerful oríkì and chants that day.
The old video was posted in the early hours of Monday as tribute to the late actor who had since been laid to rest.
