Suspected hoodlums have launched deadly attack on two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ede area of Osun State with one of the victims narrowly escaping death after being inflicted with a severe head injury.
The victim, identified as Abideen Oyetunde, was attacked in Sekona, Ede South Local Government Area on Sunday evening by the hoodlums allegedly linked to the Accord Party.
According to reports, Oyetunde was attacked at his residence where he was brutally macheted and shot before managing to escape with severe head injuries and a gunshot wound.
A video shared on Facebook on Monday showed the bloodied APC member as a doctor stitched the deep cut inflicted on his head with a machete.
Recounting his ordeal in the video recorded at an undisclosed hospital in Ede, Oyetunde said the attackers stormed his residence at about 6:00 p.m. armed with guns and machetes.
“They invaded my residence with dangerous weapons to kill me. When they sighted me, Abbey, popularly known as Monranmo, struck my head with a machete. At a point, I became unconscious, and they probably believed I was already dead. I regained consciousness when I got to the hospital.
“I saw Taofiki, popularly known as Omo Baba Monye, Ojo Jasper, Sodiki Saibu, Asimi Baraka, and Alaga Mighty, among others, whom I know to be notable Accord Party members.” Abideen said.
He is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
The second attack which also occurred later that night involved one Taofeek Akanbi who was attacked by two suspected hoodlums identified as Kazeem Oriade and Wakeel Mojeed, popularly known as Doki.
Akanbi, who recently defected from the Accord Party to the APC, was reportedly attacked at Access Point Lounge and Bar in Odo Eja, Ede.
When the assailants could not locate him at the lounge, they allegedly attempted to set the premises on fire.
The fire was, however, extinguished by members of the staff before it could cause extensive damage.
While confirming the incident in telephone conversation with NPO Reports correspondent, the Osun Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that the police are still gathering information about the incident and the perpetrators of the attack.
‘We are still gathering facts on that. The DPO has promised to furnish me with the appropriate information. I will make them available to the press soon’ He said.
