The senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress for the Osun East district, Israel Famurewa, has been arrested by the police.
Famurewa’s arrest was said to have been effected on Wednesday in Ilesa, after he was allegedly fingered as one of those sponsoring violence in the Ijesa axis of the state. NPO Reports reliably gathered that some APC chieftains had petitioned the police against some known Peoples Democratic Party’s chieftains for the festering violence in the state.
The petition had led the police to arrest one Afolabi Fadahunsi, known as Carlos. After his arrest, Fadahunsi had reportedly told the police that one of his sponsors is the senatorial candidate of the APC, Famurewa. Famurewa, a two time member of the House of Representatives, was also the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board in the state under the tenure of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
It was learnt that some chieftains of the APC had visited Famurewa in custody on Thursday. Those who were in the team included the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye.
