A yet-to-be identified man has been shot dead by a police officer in Delta state.
The suspect who was arrested by a police squad attached to the Effurun Area Command was shot at close range by one of the officers.
A disturbing video of the incident shared on X on Tuesday showed the man, whose hands were tied to his back and forced to seat on the floor, begging the officer.
His plea however fell on the deaf ears of the officer who could be seen reloading his gun before opening fire at the man.
The suspect who dropped dead immediately was later transferred into the waiting police operational vehicle.
NPO Reports contacted the Delta Police Command’s Complaint Response Unit to confirm the development.
While acknowledging seeing the video, the response unit however claimed investigation is still ongoing to confirm the incident.
The video had however sparked outrage from netizens who called out the police over the gruesome murder.
“This is an extra-judicial killing and it is irrelevant whether he was caught with arms or not because at this point, he wasn’t with any weapon and he has effectively been neutralised.
“Law enforcement officers should stop playing God and deciding who lives or dies. This shouldn’t be swept under the carpet. Prosecute this disgraced officer and his colleagues who did nothing to stop him.”@EtaredafeNC
“What did I just watch please ? What happened to giving him a fair hearing in court? What happened? I want to believe @PoliceNG_CRU, @PoliceNG have seen this and that they are on top this. Habaaa! I thought they said SARs Is gone?”@Dewunmilagos
