The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects allegedly responsible for the murder of a 20-year-old bricklayer and labourer, Abdulraheem Koni, in Budo Mosalasi Village, Saki area of the state.
As disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects identified as 35-year-old Lateef Giwa and Adediran Quazim were apprehended following an intelligence-led investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Giwa was the employer of Koni, and during work, a dispute arose between the two.
The altercation escalated, and Giwa, alongside his accomplice, Quazim, allegedly assaulted the deceased, resulting in bruises and other injuries to his body.
The victim subsequently received medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries, prompting the Command to take immediate action to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
Examination of the deceased confirmed the extent of the injuries, necessitating a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including allegations of assault and possible conspiracy.
In line with standard investigative procedure, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive and discreet investigation.
This, according to the statement ensures that the matter is handled professionally, following intelligence-led procedures.
The Oyo Police Command however urged members of the public to provide credible information to assist the Police in concluding the investigation successfully.
