Residents of Ajilari Cross-Kofa area of Maiduguri, Borno state, has been left in a state of panic following a foiled terrorists attack on community.
The Boko Haram and the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) insurgents had reportedly stormed the community on Sunday night.
As disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Borno Police Command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, the terrorists were met with strong resistance from troops of the Nigerian Army who foiled the attack with fierce exchange of gunfire.
Daso said that joint security operatives had in the wake of the attack deployed to the scene to restore normalcy.
Following reports of a foiled attack by suspected BH/ISWAP terrorists around Ajilari Cross – Kofa area of Maiduguri.
“Joint Security operatives have been mobilized to the scene and efforts are ongoing to assess the situation and restore normalcy.” He wrote.
Video attached to the statement showed moment the convoy of the security operatives arrived at the community.
Residents of the community, as captured in the video, could be heard screaming and crying as the security convoy arrived at the community.
Daso however urged the residents to remain calm and avoid the attacked area.
“Members of the public are advised to remain calm, avoid the affected area, and cooperate with security agencies as further updates will be communicated in due course.” He said.
