The Ogun State Police Command has nabbed a 32-year-old security guard, Abraham Anelka, over alleged defilement of a 16- year-old girl, at Abule-Ijoko area of the state
DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta.
According to Babaseyi, detectives from Agbado Division in Ogun arrested the suspect in connection with alleged defilement, criminal intimidation, and attempted robbery.
He said that the incident was reported at Agbado Division on June 10, by a family member of the victim, who alleged that on the night of June 9, the teenage girl on her way home was accosted by the suspect.
“He said that the suspect, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun, allegedly threatened the girl before forcibly taking her to his residence at Abule-Ijoko where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives of Agbado Division immediately launched a coordinated response, and the suspect was promptly tracked, arrested, and the firearm allegedly used in the commission of the crime was recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent and further attempted to dispossess her of her belongings,” the spokesman said.
Babaseyi said that the scene of the incident was also visited as part of investigative procedures, adding that the victim was thereafter issued a medical form and taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
He said that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet and comprehensive investigation, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Mr Bode Ojajuni, has reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, especially offences against minors.
Babaseyi quoted the CP as assuring the residents that the command will ensure diligent prosecution and justice in line with extant laws.
The CP further urges parents, guardians, and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of abuse, violence, or suspicious activity to the nearest police formation.
He assured that all reports would be treated with utmost discretion and professionalism.
