Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has picked Murtala Garo, the son-in-law of former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as his deputy governor.
Garo’s appointment by Yusuf is coming barely a month after the resignation of the former deputy governor, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo.
NPO Reported that Aminu had in March announced his resignation amid tension and impeachment plot against him by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Having refused to follow his principal in decamping from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aminu bowed to pressure as he stepped down from his role.
The position is set to be filled by Garo whose name has now been transferred to the Kano Assembly for screening and approval.
However, the emergence of Atiku’s son-in-law as the new deputy has sparked outrage from some members of the public.
According to reports, Garo was in 2024 indicted of alleged embezzlement of N57.4 billion with another alleged N2.8 billion diversion case.
His appointment as the deputy governor has revived the case as netizens expressed their concern over the development.
