In an effort to tackle the phone snatching and other related crimes across the state, the Kano State Government has deployed the first batch of 380 anti-phone snatching marshals.
The marshals, who were recruited by the Kano State Corporate Security Institute Gabasawa, were deployed following the Passing Out Parade (POP) at their training camp on Sunday.
According to reports, the state government had on the 22nd of September flagged-off a two-week training for the Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards as part of renewed efforts to tackle phone snatching, thuggery and other related crimes.
The two-week intensive training was aimed at equipping the trainees with the necessary skills to assist in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Following the completion of the training, the Institute’s Camp Commandant, Cpt. Mohammed Bello (Rtd), while addressing the marshals, charged them to work in unison as a team and do their job professionally.
“You have to work as a team. You have stayed here for two weeks. You are to work together and ensure that you protect one another and do exactly what you are supposed to do professionally.
“You came with different mindset and I’m sure as you are leaving this place today, you have a totally different mindset about what it is to be a marshal.” He said.
While addressing newsmen, the camp’s instructor, Mwo Abba Sambo, said the recruit passed through rigorous sessions to build fitness, close contact combat, and surveillance tactics.
He also disclosed that they were taken through series of lectures on illicit drugs and police engagement.
“Lecturers have come and lectured them about illicit drugs, how to identify it.
“And there are some policemen that come to teach on the modus operandi of arrest. And we on our own part, we teach them endurance.” He said.
However, the development had sparked mixed reactions from netizens as some commended the initiative while others considered the anti-phone theft marshal as absurd.
