Residents of Itumoja at Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos state has called out the immediate past chairman of the council, Wasiu Adeshina, and his successor, Adebayo Ladega, over the damage of the newly commissioned road project within the community.
The Itumoja road, which was reportedly commissioned barely two weeks ago, was heavily damaged by rainfall on Monday.
As captured in a now viral video shared on Instagram yesterday, the multimillion Naira Road project was completely washed away with all the asphalt peeling off and exposing the poorly executed work.
Outraged residents had decried the poor state of the road as they called for a probe into what they described as a “fraudluent and substandard” project.
The resident who recorded the video shifted the blame on the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led adminitsration as he claimed that the contractor would have done a better job if well paid.
“Is this road? Look at APC. This is not up to three weeks, not even up to a week. Were the contractors well paid to have done this poor job? It is what they paid for that the contractor did. Is is the contractors who are managing materials that you want to blame for this?” He asked.
In response, the new Ikorodu LG Chairman on Wednesday paid a visit to the affected road to assess the level of damage caused by the recent heavy rainfall.
As disclosed in a statement issued by his media team, the chairman was joined by his vice, Hon. Babawale Alogba, Hon. Wasiu Shotomiwa, Leader of the 7th Legislative arm of Ikorodu Local Government, Councilors across wards in Ikorodu LGA, LG council officials, engineers, the project contractor, and community stakeholders.
Ladega, in his address to the residents, assured them of adequate intervention to uphold quality standards and ensure the community benefits fully from democratic dividends.
He emphasized prompt action to implement lasting solutions, acknowledging the concerns raised by Itumoja residents.
