The Senegalese national team has appointed former Arsenal legend, Patrick Vieira, as their new head coach.
Vieira’s appointment was announced in a post shared on X on Tuesday by popular football agent, Fabrizio Romano.
According to Romano, the ex-Arsenal player agreed to take over the helm of affairs of the 2025 African Cup of Nations champions.

‘He’s set to lead the project with immediate effect.’ Romano wrote.
Vieira’s signing is coming weeks after the Senegalese Football Federation sacked their title-winning coach, Pape Thiaw, following the team’s exit at the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Recall that the Teranga Lions were knockout by Belgium in the Round of 32 where they gifted away a 2-0 lead and ended u0 losing 3-2 after extra-time.
Pape Thiaw was widely largely blamed for the defeat on account of his substitutions which saw him remove the team’s talisman, Sadio Mane, and captain, Pape Gueye.
