President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians of the eradication of insecurity across the country with the establishment of state police.
Tinubu called for collaboration with the National Assembly in ensuring that the policy gets established on a national scale.
The President stated this during his address to a delegate of Plateau state stakeholders led by Governor Caleb Muftwang at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
While charging Muftwang to work with the delegate in restoring peace to Plateau, Tinubu harped on the need to establish state policing as part of the strategies to bring lasting peace to the state and other parts of the country.
“Thank God all the former governors are alive, and you are here. Call one another. Ignore the governors’ committee if you have to or you incorporate them.
“Take that white paper or the gazette that you have. Go through it among yourselves and agree to implement those white papers.
“Any nutty issue, bring it back.
“To the legislators who are here, we are going to work together to establish state police on a national scale. I believe once we have state police, enforcement of laws and orders will take care of some of these problems.
“For us to stop creating widows, widowers, orphans, there must be peace.” He said.
The President further stated that peace is crucial in attracting development to any state as he declared the Plateau delegate as committee for peace.
He charged them to work together and come with a lasting solution to the insurgence and communal clashes in the state.
Tinubu also charged the delegate to report anybody instigating killings in the state to him as he vowed to use the instrument of office in dealing with such individuals.
“It is very tough to develop if you don’t have peace. And then, I will order you to go back. You have been appointed as the committee for peace. Go and search for it, look for it, resolve any additional step that you want the government to take.
“If you identify and you know the name of troublemakers and agent provocateurs who want to continue killing or instigate killing, let us know.
“We will use the instrument of office to deal with them.
“The path is to walk with you and find a lasting peace to the problem so that we can develop and bring a lasting peace to the problem so that we can develop and bring prosperity to the people together.” He said.
The President urged Muftwang to disregard the previous committees saddled with the peace restoration responsibility and embrace the delegate while also engaging the youths of the state.
He expressed readiness to support the state government in sensiting Plateau residents against discrimination and communal clashes.
“It is your hand now Mr. Governor. Lead your people back home. Forget those committee you mentioned to me. If it is not working, it is not working. Consider this group as the committee until you find a lasting solution.
“If we have to find money to develop jingles and campaign tones that will eliminate discrimination and conflict and killings, we can develop it together and get on the radio.
“Listen to the youths, use them and they will work with you.” Tinubu said.
