The 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the attack on his convoy by suspected hoodlums in Benue State.
NPO Reported that Obi and his entourage had in the early hours of Tuesday come under attack on his way to Yelewata town for a condolence visit to the victims of the 2025 attack.
Obi’s arrival was meet with hostility as a group of hoodlums barricaded the road and send the convoy back.
Armed with sticks and dangerous weapons, the hoodlums chased Obi’s convoy, hurling stonrd st thrm.
Reacting to the development in an interview with newsmen, disclosed that he only intended to visit the Yelewata community.
He expressed shock over the incident which he alleged to be orchestrated by a Special Adviser to the Benue state governor, Alia Hyacinth.
‘I visited a state where people have been killed. Over 200 people were killed.
‘I decided to come and condole them and now I was told that youths led by an SA to the governor have decided to block the road and make sure that I don’t go there.
‘I’ve been standing here for a while now, thinking that they will come to their senses. We can’t have a country like this.
‘The rascality they are breeding in this country is totally unacceptable. We must have a country. People are being killed everyday in Benue.
‘People want to show solidarity and comfort to them. People want to condole them. People want to show them that they are with them. I came here all the way this morning, long distance from Abuja, only to be told about what you are seeing here.’ He said.
Oni charged Nigerians to come out and vote, stressing that the country belongs to all Nigerians.
‘I’m calling on Nigerians that they must now come out and decide how we can build this country.
‘This country belong to all of us. These youths that are being used in doing this, what they are doing now will take revenge on them. They don’t know that.
‘Unfortunately, somebody sits in office and allowed this to happen. I was governor, go and ask anybody in Anambra state, this would not have happened. We don’t need it.
‘A lot of Nigerians today are hungry. They are insecure. These people are people we need to pull out of poverty by giving them opportunity of a livelihood. Unfortunately, you can see what is happening.’ He said.
