The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi has slammed critics blaming the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway for the flooding in Lagos.
Umahi refuted the claims of the highway being responsible for the flood, stressing that the allegations were borne out of envy and jealous of President Bola Tinubu.
The Minister made this known while speaking at the Press Conference and Stakeholders Engagement with the National Assembly Committee on Works and the Ministry of Works in Lagos on Tuesday.
Umahi, in his address at the event held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, claimed that the flooding had earlier been predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) with 26 other states also reported to experience similar development.
He maintained that the coastal highway has rather been largely utilised by motorists.
“NiMet predicted that there will be flood in Lagos and 26 other states. My state, Ebonyi State, is flooded. My village is flooded. Not everything, because of politics, that you attack.
“Just two minutes that we had to stay with the national assembly, we saw a build-up up to five kilometres. The people using it are enjoying it.” He said.
Umahi thereafter claimed that the criticism against the legacy project was borne out of envy and jealousy.
“So, those who attack the coastal highway and attribute every negative happening to the coastal highway, they are people born out of envy and jealousy.
“They never believed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of audacity. He is a dreamer and actualiser.” He added.
