- Tinubu’s Media Director Says Adebanjo Got it Wrong
Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has accused the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ahmed Bola Tinubu, of bribing some members of the group to cause division within, ahead of the 2023 general election.
Adebanjo made the allegation via his Twitter handle on Monday saying he’s not ready to engage the former Governor of Lagos State, in any exchange of words.
He said Tinubu induced a few members of Afenifere to curry favour in his preparation for the polls.
He insisted that Afenifere had already endorsed Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) for the next year’s election based on principle.
“Tinubu bribed some people with little money to put up a show that there’s a division in Afenifere,” he tweeted
“I won’t engage him and those he gave money to because we have already made our position clear that Peter Obi is our candidate.”
This is coming hours after Bola Tinubu’s visit to Pa Reuben Fasoranti, a foremost leader of Afenifere, at his hometown in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Sunday.
However, some members of the pan-Yoruba group, which included Mr Adebanjo and the Secretary-General, Sola Ebiseni, completely stayed away from the meeting held inside the compound of Mr Fasoranti.
During the visit, Tinubu got the blessings of Pa Fasoranti and he was unanimously endorsed for the 2023 presidency by the leaders of the Afenifere, who attended the meeting.

Speaking on behalf of the Afenifere leaders, Sehinde Arogbofa, the group’s former General Secretary, said Mr Tinubu is a true son of Yoruba land, hence their support for him in the 2023 election.
Mr. Arogbofa told Mr Tinubu to address the issue of insecurity and restructuring with all seriousness if elected the next president of Nigeria.

He also pleaded with the APC presidential candidate to be a leader that will unite Nigeria and work for the progress and development of the country.
“You are not just a Yoruba man but a Nigerian. When you become President, consider Nigeria in all you do but never forget home.
“Our demands are what you know already. Restructuring, security, and fixing the economy. Our country is no longer safe. We want state police so that the country will be safe,” the Afenifere leader said.
In a swift reaction however, Director of Media of the Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said the APC candidate did not go to Akure for any endorsement.
Onanuga, in a telephone conversation with the NPO Reports, said Adebanjo got it all wrong.
“Asiwaju did not go to Akure for endorsement. He was in Akure for the blessings of Baba Fasoranti the Afenifere leader and other leaders and that was why you saw that Baba was putting his hands on Asiwaju’s head for his blessings.” Onanuga said.
