The presidential election petition tribunal has struck out the petition of Allied Peoples Movement which has challenged the alleged double nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
NPO Reports that APM had sought for the disqualification of Shetima on the grounds that he had both the nominations for vice presidential slot as well as the nomination for the Borno South senatorial district.
The tribunal had said that the petition by the APM was purely a pre-election matter saying the APM lacked the locus to challenge the nomination.
The APM had alleged that the nomination of Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate was in breach of the Electoral Act which forbids double nomination.
Justice Tsammani ruled that the case against Shettima’s qualification to run as APC presidential candidate’s running mate was a pre-election matter which ought to have been filed at the Federal High Court.
He also argued that the petitioner should have approached the Federal High Court within 14 days after the emergence of Shettima as Vice Presidential Candidate of the APC.
Besides, he said the APM was a meddlesome interloper in the affairs of the APC. He said the APM could only challenge Shettima’s nomination if it could show how the nomination affected it.
Justice Tsammani then threw out the petition for lacking merit.
