Former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that he married his first wife, Titilayo Atiku, against the wish of their parents.
Atiku made the disclosure during his remark at Titi’s 75th birthday celebration on Saturday.
The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential candidate recounted how they had married with only two friends in attendance while both their parents and family members were absent.
“I couldn’t have married a better wife. Titi and I got married against our parents’ wishes in the most daring way with no family member and only two friends.
“Today, we have been married for over 50 years. I thank her for being patient with my shortcomings.” Atiku said.
The ex-Vice President further lauded Titi’s patience with him despite taking three other wives after her.
“She has been patient with me. I married number two; I married number three; I married number four. And she’s still patient.” He said.
In an emotional moment captured in a video shared on his X handle, Titi fed Atiku with her birthday cake which the ex-Vice President also did in return to the excitement of their guests.
Titi further put an icing on the cake as she shared a kiss with Atiku.
Also celebrating Titilayo Atiku was her son and Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku.
The Commissioner in a post on his X handle on Saturday hailed his mother for her strength and unwavering love.
“Today, we honoured a true pillar in our lives, my dear mother, Her Excellency Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar, on the occasion of her 75th birthday.
“In the presence of my father, His Excellency @atiku, and surrounded by family and loved ones, we honoured a woman whose life embodies grace, strength, and unwavering love.
“Happy 75th birthday once again, Mama. May Allah continue to bless and keep you.” The Commissioner wrote.
According to report, Atiku had, in 1971, secretly married Titilayo behind their parents in Lagos.
Their matrimony produced four children which include Fatima Atiku, Halimah Atiku, Aminu Atiku, and Adamu.
