No fewer than 12,000 members of various political parties have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The defectors were received on Sunday in Ramin Kura and Gure/Kahugu wards by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Abubakar Buba, who represented Gov. Uba Sani.
The event was attended by party leaders, government officials, community leaders and supporters from Ramin Kura, Lere and Gure/Kahugu wards.
Speaking at the event, Buba said Gov. Uba Sani’s administration remained committed to justice, fairness and equal treatment of all residents of the state.
He said the governor’s rural transformation agenda, particularly investments in roads, schools and other infrastructure, had continued to attract support for the APC across Kaduna State, irrespective of political affiliation.
Buba assured the defectors of equal opportunities within the party, promising that they would be fully integrated without discrimination.
The Chairman of Lere Local Government Area, Alhaji Jafaru Ahmad, described the mass defection as a sign of growing confidence in the APC-led administration.
He commended the new members for what he described as a timely decision to join the ruling party.
Also speaking, the APC Chairman in Lere Local Government, Mr Jonathan Shekarau, welcomed the defectors and assured them of fair treatment.
He said the party remained committed to delivering good governance and addressing the shortcomings of previous administrations.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mr Nathan Azman and Mr Rayyanu Dauda, both former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said they joined the APC because of Gov. Uba Sani’s inclusive leadership.
They said the administration had demonstrated commitment to equitable development and improving the welfare of citizens.
The representatives appealed to the state government to rehabilitate roads in their communities and complete a secondary school project abandoned in the area for decades.
They also pledged their loyalty to the APC and promised to support the administration’s development agenda in Kaduna State.
