The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), have confirmed that the Port Harcourt refinery is operational.
They made the assertion while on a tour to inspect the facility.
NUPENG President, Williams Akporeha, who affirmed that the refinery is working said;
“They took us round to reconfirm what we already know.
“As an insider, before I came here, I knew that this was working and now that it is working, it is our duty to reconfirm that it is working”
President PENGASSAN, Festus Osifo expressed satisfaction with the level of work and operations that went into bringing the facility to life.
“Going through the plants, we were shown the various processing units. We were shown the burners, heat exchangers, compressors, turbines and how all these processes tie into the production of the petroleum products as at today.
“Relatively to a very large extent, my team and I are satisfied with the level of work and the level of details that went into it.”
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero stated that the resumption of operation at the facility is a a continuation of an agreement that was signed with the government.
“When there was increase in the pump price of petroleum products, part of that agreement was that this station must work.”
