The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has met with leaders of the Igbo in the South East of Nigeria.
Specifically, she met with the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor and other representatives of major Igbo groups.
In her comments after the meeting, the envoy said she was convinced on the desire of the Igbo group to continue to have a united Nigeria.
“Good to meet Ambassador George Obiozor, President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other senior leaders from the South East.
“I heard clearly their commitment to a united Nigeria and their proposals on how to achieve this. Looking forward to more engagements in the near future,” she said
It was learnt that Obiozor tabled before the UK mission team the demand for the release of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and others being held in connection with treason.
The South East has been hotbed of violence with killings and other forms of arson in the last one year.
A sit-at-home order enforced by the IPOB has also impacted negatively on the lives of the people of the region.
