The Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Chapter of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its indefinite strike.
Dr. George Ebong, the association’s President disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.
Ebong said that the doctors are expected to resume work next week Monday.
The FCT NARD President explained that the suspension followed the intervention of the Senate Committee on Federal Territory Area Councils and Ancillary Matters.
However, Ebong revealed that none of the demands of the association had been met yet.
He also noted that the association was assured by the senate committee of a meeting with the FCT minister soon to address the lingering issues.
NPO Reported that the resident doctors had earlier this week embarked on an indefinite strike over the failure of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to address longstanding issues affecting doctors in the capital.
Ebong announced the commencement of the strike on Monday maintained the action was not targeted at any individual, including the FCT Minister or the Health Services and Environment Secretary, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, but rather against systemic failure in the health sector.
The NARD President had highlighted the key demands of the association which include the immediate payment of outstanding salaries, including those owed to 26 members who had not been paid for more than seven months.
