As Labour Party’s Candidate Casts Vote at Polling Unit
- Safiu Kehinde
The Labour Party’s Anambra governorship candidate, George Moghalu, has lamented over the widespread of vote buying in the ongoing gubernatorial election in the state as he cast his vote at his polling unit.
Mogahlu had on Saturday afternoon arrived at Polling Unit 017, Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi North Local Government Area, where he exercised his franchise.
Addressing newsmen after voting, the Labour Party’s candidate said that information available to him indicated that votes are being bough communities across the state with sums ranging from N10,000 to N15,000.
He ruled out the election being free and fair, stressing that the widespread vote buying in the election makes it far from credible.
I don’t know about free and fair. If you monetize the process, if you weaponise poverty and monetise it, what is free about it? Moghalu said.
“The process is free. I just came out. There is no struggle. But we are having very disturbing reports from very many locations as to the issue of vote buying. It is sad and most unfortunate.
‘In all honesty, what I will not do is to say what is not what it is. I came here and it didn’t take much time. I was accredited and was given the opportunity to vote. For me, it worked.’ He added.
