Nigerian billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, has urged the public to stop calling him Africa’s richest man as disclosed preferring being addressed as Africa’s wealthiest man.
Dangote made the plea during his address as the opening of his refinery’s IPO trading at the Nigerian Stock Exchange headquarters in Lagos on Monday.
The Dangote Group CEO harped on the need to collectively create prosperity, stressing that he prefers being called wealthiest man in Africa for him to be able to creat wealth for others.
‘Today, we are not merely opening shares, we are opening an opportunity to participate in a transformational chapter of not only Nigeria’s economy but Africa’s economy.
‘I want to tell you that together, let us deepen our capital market. Together, let’s us create prosperity and ownership. Together, let us build a stronger Nigeria.
‘Together, let us ensure prosperity. I don’t want anybody again to be calling me the richest man in Africa. I want to be called the wealthiest man in Africa so that I can create wealth for others.’ Dangote said.
Meanwhile, the Africa’s wealthiest man, as he preferred being called, attributed the latest accomplishment of his group to his family’s sacrifice.
He expressed his gratitude to his three daughters for bearing with his absence as he focused on building the Dangote conglomerate.
‘What you are actually getting today is because I actually deprived myself from having to enjoy my time with my family for many years.
‘I must really thank my three daughters. They must have forgiven me because at least they’ve seen the results.’ He said.
