Residents of Obate, Oke Ola area of Iwo, Iwo East Local Government Area of Osun, have called on the state government to come to their aid over a major road that has been washed off.
According to the community residents, the state of the road had become a source of concern as far back as April when flood washed off a major bridge along the route rendering the road totally impassable again.
According to a letter sighted by the NPO Reports correspondent which was addressed to the state government by the Council Manager of Iwo East Local Government, the attention of the government was called to the precarious state of the road which could endanger lives and make life unbearable for the users.
A resident, who simply identified herself as Mrs. Anifat said the collapsed has created hardship for the people of the area in Iwo as the road connects vital parts of the ancient city with one another.
It was gathered that earlier, the concerned residents, under the aegis of Iwoland Indigenes Council of Nigeria had written to the council authorities to find an urgent solution to the collapsed area of the road.
Its call for help was signed by one Sola Isola who is said to be the coordinator of the group.
The letter by the Council Manager was addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Osogbo. It was dated April 28, 2022.
“The bridge is pivotal to Iwo, being in the heart of the town linking places such as Adeeke, Ibadan Road, Palace Square, Bowen University etc,” the letter said.
Giving the specifications of the road, the letter said it is 16.3m x 11m of 4.2m height.
