An Abuja Federal High Court sitting has, on Wednesday, granted bail to former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
The court, in the hearing presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, also extended the bail to Malami’s wife, Hajia Asabe Bashir, and his son Abdulaziz Malami.
Abdulaziz and Bashir were equally granted N500 million bail each, bringing the total amount to N1.5 billion.
NPO Reported that the trio were arraigned to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering worth over N9 billion.
They were remanded at Kuje correctional centre pending the hearing of their bail application today.
Ruling on his bail application, Justce Nwite demanded that Malami produce two sureties who will stand for him in the like sum.
The judge also ordered that the two sureties must have landed properties in Maitama, Asokoro or Gwarimpa.
All the documents of the properties are to be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court while the sureties are also to depose to affidavit of means.
Malami is also required to deposit his travelling documents with the Court and must not travel out of the country without the express permission of the court.
Also, the former AGF and his sureties were also ordered to deposit their two recent passport photographs with the court.
Meanwhile, Malami has been ordered to be remanded in Kuje prison pending his perfection of the bail conditions with Justice Nwite fixing February 17, for commencement of trial of the corruption charges.
