A former Governor of Sokoto State in North West Nigeria, Aminu Tambuwal, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party.
Tambuwal said he was leaving the PDP, the platform on which he as Speaker of the House of Representatives and later as Governor over internal conflicts.
The former Speaker said his decision followed what he called “deep reflection and consultations.”
Tambuwal said he has communicated his resignation to his ward chairman in writing.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey,” he said adding that “I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State during my second term in office.”
He added that “the persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party.”
He went further in a statement made available on Thursday, “These developments have unfortunately weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party and have necessitated this decision.
“Consequently, I have today officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with my associates and supporters.”
Tambuwal expressed conviction that his decision was guided by the belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.

He said further, “I remain fully committed to the service of our country and to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity.”
NPO Reports that the African Democratic Congress is Nigeria’s leading opposition party having received as members prominent Nigerian gladiators including a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Also leading the ADC is a former Governor of Osun and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; who is the National Secretary and former Senate President David Mark who is the current National Chairman.
Also in the ADC are former Governor of Rivers State and one time Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Anambra who also contested the last presidential election against incumbent President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Peter Obi.
