Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the 2027 General Elections will be his final attempt at contesting the presidency as he reaffirmed his interest in the race.
Atiku made this known while speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday.
The ex-Vice President who will be 80 years old in 2027 talked down his age concern as he harped on the need for Nigeria to be led by a leader with experience.
“I represent both the past and future dimply because we have seen various level of leadership in the country. Both young and old, we were experiencing them.
“I still believe that our expectations of a young leadership is below what we thought. I personally believe the required experience and the required tutelage from the older generation.
“Sometimes you need to be in power because what I was able to learn from President Obasanjo through his experience, I couldn’t have learnt it outside.
“The stakes are higher because I believe that will be my last outing. That is incontrovertible.” He said.
Atiku expressed confidence of winning the election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition party.
He maintained that the ADC is much broader than the coalition which formed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014.
“What makes it different from the other times is that you have a more broader coalition. You have elements from APC, PDP, NNPP, Labour Party.
“That makes it a much broader coalition. For me personally, I see a lot of future because within the broad coalition, you see people of my generation and people below my own generation down the line. You can see a clear succession pattern emerging.” He added.
