Oghenemine, mother of late Mene Ogidi who was publicly executed by a police officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, in Delta state, has revealed her family’s ordeal in the hand of police.
The grieving mother disclosed that she had previously lost one son to police brutality with the murder of Ogidi, who was arrested over alleged possession of a Barretta pistol and ammunition concealed in a waybill, marking her second loss.
She made this known in an interview with BBC Pidgin on Wednesday at the family’s residence.
“The other one wey dem first kill na him follow this one wey dem kill now. Wetin I do police?” Oghenemine amid tears.
The mother of the late 28-year-old mother recounted how Ogidi had in the video of the incident pleaded with the office while disclosing that he was only sent to pick up the waybill.
“Video wey dem put yesterday, I hear when the pikin dey tell them say na somebody send am.” She said.
Also speaking in the interview, the sister of the deceased suspect disclosed that Ogidi was sent by a friend to pick up the waybill on Sunday.
She recounted how he had used his mother’s phone to call the friend while asking her how fast he can get to the bus park.
“That very day when the thing happened, he told me that he was going collect waybill. He said his friend from Sapele asked him to help pick up a waybill.
“He said his phone was faulty. So, he used my Mum’s phone to call the friend who sent him money for transport to the place.
“He was even asking me how fast he can get to the place that he might see a little profit from the transport fare.
“I told him to take a bus from garage to roundabout that they will drop him by Sapele park. That was how he left.” She said.
The lady further recounted how the friend who sent him the errand called to inform them about Ogidi’s arrest.
After failing to return home, his other brother went to the nearby police station to search for him but the station claimed he was not in their custody.
Further search in other stations proved abortive until Tuesday when they found out about the shooting.
“I was yet to return home in the evening when his friend came and informed me that OG has been arrested. Everybody here calls him OG.
“We called his number but he wasn’t picking his call.
“On Monday morning, my elder brother said we should go to the station to look for him since they claimed he was arrested.
“He went to all the stations, but they said he was not in their custody.” Ogidi’s sister said.
