President Muhammadu Buhari has said he cannot give indications towards his preferred successor in 2023 in order to protect whoever he or she is.
Buhari, in a recorded interview with Channels Television aired on Wednesday said should be name his preferred candidate, the person may be eliminated before Nigeria gets to 2023.
“I wouldn‘t because he may be eliminated if I do. I better keep that a secret,” Buhari told Nigerians through the interview.
Those who have are believed to be prominent and have shown signs of intentions to contest include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor of Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, former Governor Rochas Okorocha.
The President, who spoke on a number of other issues, told the interviewers that his administration has secured the country better than how he met it in 2015.
Buhari said at least, 18 local government areas were in the firm grip of Boko Haram before be came into office adding that today, there is no local government area under the control of terrorists.
Speaking on the economy and his recent appointment of a new Chief Economic Adviser, Dr. Doyin Salami, the President said Salami has been a good choice as he noted that the expert had done well as a globally renowned economist.
