The Government of Ekiti on Tuesday confirmed Monday’s abduction of students of a private school and their teachers.
The government, giving details, said six pupils, three teachers and the school bus driver were abducted by bandits who waylaid them after the closing hours and were being driven home.
The incident happened hours after the killing of two traditional rulers and kidnap of another in the state on Monday.
NPO Reported that the government in a statement said the governor has vowed to ensure the release of the victims.
” Six pupils of a private school in Emure-Ekiti, three teachers and the bus driver were abducted while returning to Eporo- Ekiti, Monday evening,” the government confirmed
The Governor was quoted as describing the kidnapping of the school pupils, as callous and unacceptable, said nothing would be spared in the efforts to rescue them.
Government said security agencies in the state are already on the trail of the abductors with a mandate to bring the pupils and their teachers back safely.
“Governor Oyebanji said security is being stepped up across the state with a view to flushing out criminal elements from their hideouts. While calling on the citizens to remain calm and vigilant, he urged them to cooperate with security agencies, by making available relevant information to the authorities,” the statement said
