The Nigeria Police, Enugu State Command has announced the arrest of four suspected members of car stealing syndicate in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Daniel Ndukwe on Monday said that four vehicles stolen within Enugu and bunch of car keys were recovered from them.
Ndukwe noted that the suspects were arrested by police operative in Uwani Police Division following surveillance mounted around Kenyatta Market axis, where several reports of car thefts were received.
“Accordingly, Anioko Chukwujekwu, 32, the syndicate’s kingpin, was arrested on March 3, 2024, at about noon while attempting to steal a car from where it was parked at Kenyatta Market.
“During the preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime, while his confessional statements led to further arrest of three more suspects in Abakaliki, Ebonyi, who are his conspirators, receivers and sellers of the stolen vehicles,” he added.
He said the recovered Mercedes-Benz cars were registered SKA 292 AA, AGL 512 EY, and CHR 50 AE.
The command spokesman said the suspects would be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
