The Kaduna House of Assembly has set up a 13-man ad hoc committee to investigate transactions, loans, grants and projects execution under the immediate-past Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
It’d probe dealings and implementation from 2015 to 2023.
The constitution of the committee followed a motion on the floor of the Assembly by member representing Kaura Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Mugu.
This is coming after Governor Uba Sani’s statement at a recent town hall meeting that the state is grappling with a debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion and N115 billion contractual liabilities left behind by the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The disclosure sparked a debate on the debts, prompting calls for scrutiny of key officials involved in loan procurement, project execution, and fund utilisation.
However, Mugu said it was a matter of public importance the loans borrowed by the former Governor be investigated.
Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman, who presided over the plenary, urged the adhoc committee to invite all the relevant stakeholders for questioning and investigation of the matters.
He said those to be summoned are expected to shed light on crucial details that could facilitate the recovery of funds earmarked for projects that were not completed.
The ad-hoc committee consists of Lawal Aminu (Doka/Gabasawa constituency) as chairman. The members include Mugu Yusuf (Kaura constituency), House Majority Leader Munira Tanimu; and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Shehu Pambegua.
