Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 12 large parcels of cocaine concealed in false bottom of food flasks.
The cocaine shipment, weighing 2.80 kilograms was bound for the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic Airline from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
The operation led to the arrest of two cargo agents, Ama Obinna Ufeim, 33, and Ogabi Monday Akorede, 39.
Further investigations also led to the arrest of Agoro Tajudeen Moninuola, 52, identified as the sender of the consignment.
In another operation, NDLEA officers at the import shed of Lagos airport intercepted 2.90 kilograms of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, hidden inside snack food packs.
The shipment reportedly arrived from the United States aboard a Delta Airlines flight.
Two clearing agents, Animashaun Moshood Adetunji and Mercy Gabriel Oluwasegun, were first arrested.
The consignee, Saheed Adeshina Adegoke, 29, a fashion designer, was later arrested at Ogba, Lagos during a follow-up operation.
Similarly, along the Kaduna-Zaria highway, NDLEA operatives intercepted a trailer loaded with cement and heading to Hadeja, Jigawa State.
After searching the vehicle, officers recovered 760 blocks and 33 jumbo bags of skunk, weighing 847 kilograms, after which the driver Umar was arrested.
Also, in Cross River State, NDLEA officers supported by soldiers raided a forest in Uwet community, Akamkpa Local Government Area.
During the raid, 15,000 kilograms of skunk cultivated across six hectares of farmland were destroyed, while 119 kilograms were recovered.
The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised officers involved in the operations and urged commands nationwide to sustain the momentum in reducing drug supply and fighting drug abuse.
