Oyo State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has warned traditional rulers against playing partisan politics in the forthcoming 2027 General Election.
Makinde maintained that traditional rulers are expected to be neutral and all-welcoming.
He warned that any monarch who decides to play politics ahesd of the forthcoming election will be insulted.
The governor gave the warning while addressing a crowd of supporters on Saturday in Eruwa during the first coronation anniversary of Samuel Adegbola, the Eleruwa of Eruwa.
He charged all traditional rulers to embrace every candidates irrespective of their political affiliation.
“Traditional rulers should accept all of us as their children.
“Any traditional ruler that decides to play partisan politics, we will insult him.
“Once you decide to play politics, expect insult.” Makinde said.
While the APM Presidential candidate did not directly mention name of the traditional rulers, his statement has widely been considered as a warning note to the Olubadan of Ibadanland. Oba Abdulrasheed Ladoja.
Makinde and Ladoja had over the past months been at odds against eachother.
The Olubadan whose support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election hsd since been a public knowledge had at several expressed his non-regard of Makinde, boycotting several events hosted by the governor.
