Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC), over the traffic caused by its summit in Lagos.
Rhodes-Vivour took to his X handle, to post a video of the gridlock.
He accused the ruling party of poor planning and incompetence following heavy congestion around the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) area on Lagos Island.
The former governorship candidate questioned why residents and commuters were trapped in traffic because of the APC event.
“Does the APC in Lagos have any sense of decency or competence?” he asked.
The politician questioned why authorities failed to make adequate arrangements to prevent gridlock around the venue.
According to him, the APC controls key transport and traffic institutions in the state, including the Ministry of Transportation, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Rapid Response Squad, yet is unable to manage traffic flow around it’s own event.
“Why should everyone on the Island be trapped in traffic simply because of your summit at TBS?” Rhodes-Vivour said.
“This is utterly ridiculous. Madness, even.”
Rhodes-Vivour also faulted the handling of vehicles conveying party members to the summit.
According to him, several public and private parking facilities exist between Marina and Bonny Camp that could have been used to reduce congestion.
He argued that buses transporting APC supporters should have been directed to designated parking areas while traffic continued to move freely.
“Doesn’t common sense suggest that arrangements should have been made with these parking lots so buses conveying your members could park properly while traffic continues to flow?” he asked.
