The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on his re-election victory in the November 8 Anambra governorship poll, describing the outcome as “historic and overwhelming.”
In a statement issued on Sunday in Awka by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Ejimofor Opara, said the result reflected the people’s deep trust in Governor Soludo’s leadership and his vision for a “liveable and prosperous homeland.”
“With 73 percent of the total votes cast and victories in 98 percent of the 326 electoral wards across the state, the people of Anambra have once again delivered a clear, unequivocal, and overwhelming mandate,” Opara stated.
He described the outcome not merely as an election result but as “a referendum on performance and a celebration of progressive governance,” adding that the victory reaffirmed APGA’s position as the true political identity of the Igbo people and the custodian of Anambra’s development aspirations.
Opara expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring peace and fairness throughout the electoral process.
He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting what he called a transparent and credible election that reflected the will of the people.
“We equally recognise the professionalism and vigilance of the security agencies, whose presence and conduct guaranteed a peaceful and orderly exercise across the state,” he added.
However, the party expressed sadness over the killing of Mr. Francis Ibe, the Councillor of Owerre-Ezukala and APGA leader in Orumba South Local Government Area, who was shot dead by gunmen shortly after casting his vote.
“We pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and call for the speedy arrest and prosecution of his killers,” Opara said.
The APGA spokesperson thanked the people of Anambra for their courage, patience, and commitment to the democratic process, noting that they were “the true winners” of the election.
He urged all political parties and candidates who participated in the election to accept Governor Soludo’s olive branch and join hands in consolidating peace and development in the state.
“Elections are moments of contest; nation-building is a continuous collective duty. The task ahead requires unity, maturity, and shared purpose,” he said.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to deepening democracy and expanding economic opportunities for Anambra people, Opara noted that the victory marked a new chapter for the state.
“This victory marks a new dawn. Together, we shall build an Anambra that is liveable, prosperous, globally competitive, and exemplary in governance,” he concluded.
