Son of leading opposition figure and former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Abba Atiku Abubakar has defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
But in a swift message, the former vice President said he does not dictate to his children adding that in a democratic environment, children who are of age are free to follow their respective journeys.
NPO Reports that Abba promised to mobilize support for the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Abba said his defection was influenced by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin.
He was received into the party by Jibrin and the National Vice Chairman of the APC, North East, Mustafa Salihu, Thursday evening, in Abuja.
To make his defection convincing, the younger Atiku also renamed the political group he founded to Haske Bola Tinubu Organinsation. It was set up in 2022 as Atiku Haske organisation.

Reacting via his X handle, Atiku said “The decision of my son, Abba Abubakar, to join the APC is entirely personal. In a democracy, such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect. As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians.
“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people. I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress.”
NPO Reports Atiku defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the African Democratic Congress ADC, which has vowed to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
