Lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency, Chinda Kingsley, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) days after securing the All Progressive Congress (APC) Rivers State governorship ticket.
Chinda’s membership withdrawal from the PDP was announced during the House of Representatives plenary session on Tuesday.
The lawmaker also announced his resignation as the green chamber’s minority leader.
Chinda’s defection letter was read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the session.
The Rivers APC governorship candidate joined other 12 lawmakers who announced change of party at the resumption plenary session after Sallah break.
Notable among the defectors were six Oyo lawmakers who similarly defected from the PDP but joined the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
The members of the Oyo House of Representatives caucus who defected to the APM on Tuesday included Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle and Adigun Adekunle.
Their defection is also coming days after the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was declared the APM’s presidential candidate.
