The self-acclaimed Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has revealed borrowing the N400 million he used in paying for his appointment.
Adeyemi made the disclosure amid ongoing controversies over the council which was declared fake by the presidency.
NPO Reported that the presidency had last month declared the PFIP non-existent following Adeyemi’s bribery allegations against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
He accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a substantial amount from the take-off grant awarded to the agency while also alleging paying N400 million bribe to the COS.
While Gbajabiamila had, in reaction, denied the allegations as well as link with the PFIPC, the presidency also waded in with Adeniyi declared an impostor and his agency fake.
This had since plummeted into scandal with Adeniyi dragged to court by the Federal Government.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme, the self-acclaimed council DG disclosed that he borrowed the money he paid to secure his appointment.
He further disclosed being reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by his lenders who demanded a refund of their money.
“I borrowed this money. In fact, those that I borrowed this N400 million from have reported to the EFCC. I borrowed this money to pay for this appointment.
“Those I borrowed the money from reported me to EFCC, asking me to refund their money. So, I’m even yet to pay this money back.” He said.
On the ongoing scandal, Adeniyi described the development as unfortunate as he questioned the presidency’s claim that his agency was non-existence.
“This whole situation is unfortunate. The way some caucus in this government are taking this matter is unfortunate and is embarrassing. Imagine claiming that one man called a con artist maneuvered the whole system. It is unfortunate.” He said.
Speaking on reason behind his disappearance amid manhunt for him by security agencies, Adeniyi held that he is not on the run.
He however claimed that his life is in danger with several assassination plot against him.
“They sponsored a lot of people to bring down my social media handles down.
“So, I don’t really know much about what is going on again. I just hear from family and friends. They said I’m running away whereas I’m still in Nigeria. I’m not going anywhere.
“I’m ready. I’m not hiding. I’m only scared for my life because I have it in good authority that my life is in danger. There are several attempts to my life out there.” He said.
