Former Kogi lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has disclosed selling goats to sponsor his education.
Melaye made the disclosure during a recent podcast interview on KAA Truth.
The ex-lawmaker recounted buying a goat which he raised and sold its kids to pay his school fees.
“As a 12-year old boy I bought a goat. That goat gave birth and I sold the offspring to pay my school fees from secondary to university level.
“From the offspring of that goat, I paid for my WAEC, JAMB. I paid for my first year and second year at the Ahmadu Bello University” He said.
Melaye, who is renowned for his exotic lifestyle and love for cars debunked claim of getting his money from politics.
He claimed to have started investment in shares from the age of 18.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain recount investing in Apple, Zoom, and Euro Bond amongst others
“At age 18, I was already investing internationally, not a large scale. You don’t need to have all the money on earth to invest.
“You start. When I did my Euro Bond, I did that 27 years ago.
“At that time, Euro was N60 to One Euro. So, you can calculate what that investment will be today because I didn’t touch it even with all the dividends, I rolled it over year after year anf it’s still there.
“You know what the value of Euro is today. When I bought my Apple shares, how much is the share today?
“I bought Microsoft. In fact, when I bought my shares in Uber, my friends were laughing at me.
“Today, I know what it is. When I also got some shares in Zoom, people were laughing at me. Then Covid came and Zoom went times 400. Just ask God for direction.” He said.
Melaye also disclosed investing in franchise businesses in America.
These, he claimed, have been his major sources of income since he left office.
“I started investing in franchise business in America over 20 years ago. I started with one. It gave birth to two and two gave birth to three.
“For people who do not know what you do, they can call you names. They can say your money is from politics.
“They can say your money is from anywhere. But I’ve been out of office since 2019. I’ve been out of public office.” He said.
