As Senate Screens New INEC Chairman

The new Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has affirmed that he was never part of President Bola Tinubu’s legal team during his 2023 Presidential campaign.
Amupitan made this known during his screening by the Senate on Thursday.
NPO Reported that Tinubu’s appointment of the Kogi state-born don as the successor of immediate past INEC President, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu had raised speculations of the President appointing an ally who worked under legal team during his campaign.
The speculation was again raised by Bayelsa lawmaker, Seriake Dickson, during the public screening.
The former Bayelsa governor demanded direct clarification from the INEC Chairman designate.
Reacting, Amupitan held that he was never part of the team, disclosing that he came along with a certified true copy of all the counsels involved.
“It is very simple to answer.
“All reports on those cases have been out. Even when I was coming, I decided to have certified true copies of the counsels.
“I never and I did not appear in the Presidential Election Tribunal and at the Supreme Court. I was not part of it.” He said.
