As EFCC Detains Ex-Kaduna Governor
- Safiu Kehinde
The Federal Government has dragged former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to court over his confession of tapping into the telephone conversations of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
El-Rufai’s arraignment is coming days after his attempted arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Following the incident, he appeared on Arise TV’s Prime Time Programme on Friday where he accused Ribadu of calling for his arrest.
The ex- Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister claimed to have gotten the information from sources who tapped into the NSA’s phone conversation.
“This is the modus operandi of the ICPC that increasingly has become personal tool of Nuhu Ribadu who made the call and the order that I must be in custody yesterday.
“He made the call because we received their calls. The government thinks that they are the only ones that listens to calls. But we also have our ways. He made the call, he gave the order. Someone tapped his phone.” El-Rufai had said during the interview.
While admitting to the illegality of the action, the ex-Kaduna governor claim the government also does same thing all the time.
“I know, but the government does it all the time. They listen to our court all the time without a court order. But someone tapped his phone and told us he gave the order” He added.
In the wake of the disclosure, the Department of State Services (DSS) would, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured his arrest and detention in the latter’s custody.
