The Lagos State Government has arrested a school security guard caught in a viral video dumping refuse in drainage.
The culprit identified as 56-year-old John Ehidreme, an employee of De-Young Comprehensive College in Ikorodu are of the state, was recorded by a resident who witnessed the illegal waste disposal.
As captured in the video shared on X by the Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, Ehidreme, was seen emptying a large waste bin into the drainage channel.
Wahab, in the post, disclosed that the suspect had since been arrested with an adjoining clip of the video showing moment he was paraded Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) office.
The commissioner reiterated the state government’s warning against indiscriminate waste disposal which , according to him, obstructs drainage channels and contribute to flooding amongst other environmental implications.
“Earlier today, Mr. John Ehidreme, 56, was arrested for illegally dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.
“The Lagos State Government reiterates that indiscriminate waste disposal is a violation of environmental laws, as it obstructs drainage channels, contributes to flooding, and poses significant public health and environmental risks.
“Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly and use only approved waste management facilities.” Wahab wrote.
