The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has increased the number of daily trips on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line from 90 to 94, in a move aimed at improving commuter experience and meeting growing passenger demand.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its Head of Corporate Communication, Kolawole Ojelabi.
According to Ojelabi, the new timetable will take effect from June 15, with train services on weekdays and Saturdays now starting at 6:00 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than the previous 6:30 a.m. schedule.
He said the adjustment is designed to reduce waiting times, improve accessibility, and provide commuters with an opportunity to begin their journeys before peak-hour road traffic sets in.
“Under the new schedule, trains will begin operations 30 minutes earlier from Monday to Saturday, enabling thousands of commuters to start their journeys ahead of peak road traffic,” Ojelabi said.
Despite the increase in service frequency, the Blue Line will continue to operate until 9:30 p.m. daily.
Ojelabi noted that the additional trips are expected to ease congestion at train stations, shorten waiting periods, and enhance overall travel efficiency for passengers.
The agency also announced an expansion of Sunday services, with daily trips increasing from 22 to 24.
Trains will continue to run at 30-minute intervals, providing commuters with more predictable and reliable transportation options.
LAMATA said the latest enhancement reflects the rising adoption of the Blue Line since passenger operations commenced on September 4, 2023.
Since its launch, the rail service has transported more than six million passengers, underscoring its growing importance in Lagos’ transportation network.
