Multiple crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has left thousands of commuters stranded in heavy traffic gridlock.
The lockdown had reportedly stretched across routes in some Lagos communities like Berger, Ogba, and Ikeja, the state’s capital city.
Some alternative routes within Ogun communites were also not spared of the gridlock as motorists sought to avert the standstill.
NPO Reports gathered that areas blocked apart from traffic that stretched kilometres on both sides of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway include Oba Ogunji Road, Alausa Secretariat, CMD Road, and Magodo in Lagos State, and Channels TV Road and Isheri in Ogun State.
Confirming the incident in a post shared on its X handle, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed that accident, involving a Toyota Sienna and two cabster trucks, occured on Kara Bridge.
“A multiple vehicle accident occurred on Kara Bridge inward Mowe/Ibafo along the Lagos Ibadan Express Way, involving a Toyota Sienna, and 2 cabster trucks.
“Preliminary findings indicate the incident was caused by an articulated trailer that overturned earlier on the same bridge.” LASTMA wrote.
The authority said its officials are curently on ground alongside officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Police officers to manage the situation.
Towing vans have reportedly been contacted with recovery operations are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the accident, LASTMA confirmed, has led to a significant traffic backlog extending to Otedola Bridge and beyond.
It is also affecting Isheri-Olowora and Ogunusi Road.
To ease movement, officials have temporarily opened one-way traffic from Berger down to OPIC Turning.
Also confirming the accident in a statement issued on its official X handle, the FRSC urged motorists to avoid Kara Bridge and Ojodu-Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) advises motorists to avoid the Kara Bridge/Ojodu Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway following multiple road traffic crashes in the early hours of Friday, 24 July 2026, which are currently causing significant traffic disruption as rescue and recovery operations continue.” The statemenr partly read.
Motorists travelling outward from Lagos towards Ibadan are advised to divert through the Ikorodu–Sagamu route, while those heading into Lagos should consider alternative entry routes via the Lekki–Epe Expressway or the Ikorodu–Sagamu Expressway.
The Corps urged commuters to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic management officials on ground.
Meanwhile, another accident involving truck had occurred along the Mowe/Ibafo axis of the expressway.
The truck, as captured in a separate video shared on X, overturned across the road with its content currently evacuated by some labourers.
The accident is yet to cause any gridlock as most vehicles bound to ply the route are still stranded at Kara Bridge.
