The 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has decried the inadequate access to loans by young Nigerian entrepreneurs.
Obi alleged that the loan system is fashioned against Nigerian youths.
The former Anambra state governor made the claim while speaking at the This Generation Conference hosted by Summit Bible Church in Abuja on Saturday.
As captured in a clip of his address shared on X on Monday, Obi claimed that successful businessmen like Bill Gates and late Steve Jobs would not have succeeded if they were Nigerians.
“The system is against you. Everything starts with how the system enables you.
“If Bill Gates, Steve Job, and all these people were here, they won’t start.” He said.
Obi recalled how he secured a loan in the United Kingdom after the manager saw his academic qualifications.
According to him, the UK system grants loans and issues credit card to graduates in the country.
“I went into the UK and walked into the bank.” He said.
“They gave me loan based on my intellectual capital. What does that mean, when the manager looked at it and said oh you were Cambridge, Oxford, what do you want?
“If you graduate today in the UK from any of the universities, you walk into the bank, they give you credit card immediately and give you a loan.” Obi said.
The NDC Presidential candidate maintained that such provision is not available in Nigeria.
“Nobody will give you anything here. You must bring your mother; bring you father’s land.” He said.
