Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has disclosed that he was a victim of the fraudulent activities linked to the fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Kalu made the disclosure during plenary on Wednesday, stating that his photograph had been used alongside that of the self-acclaimed Director-General of the PFIPC, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
According to the Deputy Speaker, his office received a letter in May 2025 bearing the Presidency’s letterhead and identifying the sender as the Office of the Director-General of the PFIPC.
He said the letter initially appeared credible because it contained an address at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phase Three, Second Floor, Central Business District, Abuja.
Kalu explained that although some details in the letter raised concerns, he directed members of his team to verify the existence of the organisation at the stated address.
He said the team confirmed that the organisation operated from the location, prompting him to approve a meeting with its representatives.
“I was a victim, and if you watched the news, you would have seen my picture displayed alongside that of the purported Director-General of the organisation,” Kalu said.
He added, “When I saw the letter, some of the information looked credible while some did not. I asked my team to verify the address, and they came back confirming that the organisation was operating there.
“Based on that report, I approved an interaction with them.” he said.
