Accuses Sahara Reporters of Falsehood
- Safiu Kehinde
Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Media and Publicity, has debunked the alleged plan by the governor to resign over health concerns.
This is coming under the heels of an exclusive report by Sahara Reporters claiming that Sanwo-Olu has been instructed by President Bola Tinubu and other key members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to resign.
Quoting a top source in the presidency, the media outlet alleged that Tinubu and the other key leaders are dissatisfied with the current leadership in Lagos and have moved to initiate a transition plan with Sano-Olu ordered to quit on health grounds.
“The Presidency, President Bola Tinubu and key figures in his inner circle are reportedly dissatisfied with the current leadership in Lagos and have moved to initiate a transition plan,” the source, as quoted by Sahara Reporters, said.
Reacting in a statement issued on Monday, Akosile dismissed the report, stressing that it is force in its entirety.
He affirmed that the governor remains in good health and has been actively discharging his duties.
“We have noted with concern a false report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been “ordered to resign on health grounds” with the Deputy Governor set to take over.
“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign-this is another fake news, which has become a pattern of Sahara Reporters.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.” Aksosile wrote.
The governor’s aide disclosed that Sanwo-Olu had earlier in the day hosted his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who visited to notify him about his governorship ambition.
Akosile urged public to disregard Sahara Reporters’ claim, alleging that the media outlet has track record of publishing disinformation.
“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor.
“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary.
“While Sahara Reporters has a track record of publishing disinformation, we are issuing this clarification to prevent the public from being misled by deliberate falsehoods.
“We would ordinarily ignore such baseless reports, but the need to reassure Lagosians makes this response necessary.
“We advise the public to disregard the Sahara Reporters story and treat it as fake news.” He added.
