Chukwuma Soludo has on Tuesday been sworn in as the Governor of Anambra State for a second term.
Soludo who emerged winner of the November 2025 Anambra Governorship election was sworn-in four months after the election.
The governor reportedly took the oath of office at 11.55a.m., after his deputy, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, was sworn in earlier by the Chief Judge of Anambra, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.
He arrived Ekwueme Square, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Goodluck Jonathan, to a tumultuous reception.
NPO Reported that Shettima and Obasanjo had earlier arrived in Anambra ahead of the ceremony with Soludo receiving them at the airport.
In his address after the swearing-in ceremony, the Anambra governor expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries for their presence.
He highlighted some of his accomplishment in his first four years which include dismantling of 62 criminal groups and cancellation of Sit-at-Home order.
Soludo also declared that Anambra is now one of the safest states in Nigeria, adding that Anambra now has lowest out-of-school children in Nigeria with 2.5 percent according to UNICEF.
On his plan for the second term tenure, the governor maintained that his administration will consolidate the ongoing transformation across all sectors in the state.
“Over the next four years, we are changing to gear four to consolidate the ongoing transformation across all sectors; accelerate actions to secure spaces and pillars for prosperities of the generation yet unborn and to institutionalise change.”
Soludo however maintained that security and electricity will remain a priority.
Alongside Shettim, Obasanjo, and Jonathan, Soludo’s inauguration was witnessed by thousands of well-wishers, among whom were Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Dame Virginia Etiaba, Nigeria’s first female governor and former Gov. Chris Ngige.
Also present at the event are Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, deputy governors of Delta, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna and Ebonyi States, wife of Nigeria’s first executive vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Mrs Ifeoma Ekwueme, National leaders of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) lawmakers, traditional, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
